Kate and Tom co-authored The Directory of Venture Capital (2 editions), and Finding Money: The Small Business Guide To Financing both published by John Wiley and Sons. She's written for and been a featured expert on entrepreneurship in The Wall Street Journal, Inc. magazine, Nations Business, Success magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Journal of Banking, Entrepreneur magazine and many others. She's been featured as an author and expert on a number of national television and radio shows.
Kate has written business plans for a wide range of companies from a wholesale florist, to a medical video syndication company, an electronic publishing firm, a vintage airplane ride operation (ours), a photo archive business, and a numerous of others. She's written hundreds of articles and press releases for the various business she's run. Many were picked up in USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Sunset Magazine, AAA Westways, and dozens of other national and international publications.
Tom's first publication was an article coauthored with two other researchers while a sophomore in college. It had the shocking title of 'The physiologic consequences of exposure to high density pulsed electromagnetic energy', and was published in 1968 in the International Journal of Biometerology. It describes the results of research conducted at the Lovelace Foundation for Aerospace Medical Research which involved painlessly subjecting rats to, well, high density pulsed electromagnetic energy. Think new clear physics, as Pogo called it.
Tom compiled and edited the 1976 edition of the Dept. of Defense Computer Institute's Selected Computer Articles. In 1979 Tom wrote an article with the titillating title "Networking with small computers: Applications for home delivery of information services." It was published in the Proceedings of the annual conference of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Tom also wrote a round-up article about personal computer flight simulators for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Pilot magazine, and several others about biplanes and the people that fly them for the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) magazine. He self-published and sold the Vintage Airplane Catalog to customers including the FAA and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. At a profit, no less.
Today Tom maintains two blogs, Wow! Really? where he writes about amazing science facts and foolishness and Tailspin's Tales where her writes his own, and collects other's, first hand accounts of aviation experiences. Together, Tom and Kate write posts for Undress For Success, a blog focused on telecommuting and home-based businesses.

"I've read some fun, entertaining, and inspirational books by and for small business owners. But lets face it--they won't pay the bills.... (Finding Money: The Small Business Guide to Financing) is my choice for one of the most useful books for small business owners...books that give high-quality guidance and examples for doing something."

"Everything I needed to know was in this book. I didn't waste time calling tapped-out funds or people who didn't care. They also offer an electronic version delivered via email. They say don't do it, but I used the database for a personalized fax campaign Friday and Monday and received 13 responses from cold calls in about 15 hours isn't to shabby. This is a whole lot cheaper than the directories that cost over $300 bucks."
